Pelvic Health Physio Initial Assessment
Pelvic health physiotherapy initial assessments consist of a thorough discussion with the client about their current status, their pelvic health and their goals for physiotherapy. We discuss pelvic related pain, incontinence, bowel/bladder function, sexual function as well as obstetric and gynaecological history. An in-depth physical assessment is completed focusing on the pelvic floor, core, back and related musculature. This generally includes an internal and external examination, depending on the client's comfort. The physiotherapist works in collaboration with the client to determine the best course of treatment based on the results and focused towards the client's specific goals. Client will leave their initial assessment with tools (e.g., exercise program, lifestyle changes, etc.) to start working on towards achieving their goals.

Pelvic health physiotherapy follow up appointments start with a conversation to understand how the client's current status is and where they are in relation to their goals. We talk about how their home physiotherapy regime is going (e.g., exercise program, lifestyle changes, etc.) and if there are any new questions or concerns to be addressed. This catch up conversation will determine the direction of treatment taken during the appointment. Physiotherapy treatment often includes education, physiotherapy exercises, as well as manual muscle treatment (internally and/or externally). At Esprit Health, we work with our clients in a partnership to always make sure our treatment is aligned with their individualized goals, personal needs and comfort level.
